ROI is Return On Investment

After buying, selling, mining and staking more than three dozen altcoins it became clear that many coins had some great features but no single coin had everything. ROI Coin is essentially a coin that combines all the very best features of many great coins into one single coin. While most cryptocurrencies focus on and revolve around the coin itself ROI Coin is different. The focus of ROI Coin is the community and the coin revolves around the people that support it.

PSU repair?

Does anyone know if EVGA repairs its PSU's for folks (at a fee), or if there is any place in Canada or the US that does a professional repair?

I have two EVGA Supernova NEX1500 Classified PSU's that still work great but they were used to power some bitcoin miners in their life, the cables got hot and melted some of the connection ports on the PSU.

I am also looking to see where I can get a set of cables for it so I can start using them for normal purposes. As the original owner who sold them to me lost them. lol

Thanks,

Upgrading my 5 year old PC. Any thoughts?

So I've had my current set up since I was a freshman in high school and now that I'm noticing my PC struggle on triple A games and blue screening frequently, I decided to replace my motherboard, CPU and RAM all at once. My current rig and what I plan to replace:
Specs:
CPU: Intel i7-4790k 4.0Ghz --- AMD Ryzen 9 3900x
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-GAMING 7 --- MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wifi
Graphic: ASUS Geforce GTX 1070ti
SSD: 500Gb Samsung
Hdd: 1Tb Western Digital
Ram: 16Gb DDR3 Corsair Vengeance --- 32 Gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 3200
Power: Evga 850W G2 Supernova
Wifi: TP-link N900 wireless Dual Band PCI Express Adapter
Case: Obsidian Series® 750D Full Tower ATX Case
ODD: Samsung DVD-RW

I haven't changed any parts over the last 5 years except for the graphics card which I got during the BitCoin craze (dumb I know), but I wanted to see if you guys can let me know if the choices I made were good/bad or if you had any experience with AMD that could help me prevent any problems. Or just make fun of how obsolete everything is.

As a former libertarian and an IT veteran, let me explain why I see crypto comedy godl for decades to come

When I was young and misguided, before I realized I was a liberal progressive (as defined in the US), I was a registered libertarian. That lasted until I realized that good government policy is driven by empirical data and logic. Libertarians make policy based on some flavor of an arbitrary belief system and if it doesn’t work for some (most) people, well those people weren’t worthy and that’s the reason everything is going to hell in a hand-basket. Like some aspects of religion it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy of trying to convert the “idiots” out there that “hate the free markets” while simultaneously being defeated by the need for coordination and planning that notoriously looks like the very thing they are fighting against.
As a multi-decade player in the startup and enterprise IT fields, i can tell you that there are a ton of engineers out there with blinders on in a similar way. They have their view of how a product should be that often has no relation to what customers actually want or its stated purpose. When things get hard they’ll tell you how everything needs to be rewritten in their pet language or framework and that they alone have the answer. They love their complicated solutions to problems that they design in a bubble over a month, even though with just a few minutes of collaboration they could do something simple and useful in a day and move on.
Butts are the ultimate realization of the combining of these two worlds. Engineers dying to be recognized for over-designed and unnecessarily complex solutions to stuff that already exists. And this stuff that exists is some variation of quasi-money-store-of-value-stuff that in some delusional world is something everyone will use to buy things instead of carrying national currencies. Best of all there’s always a chance to prove yourself by making another dumb variation on a variation and hoping to win the popularity lottery of pseudo-economists that are waiting for the collapse of world financial systems like it’s the Second Coming.
When I see bitcoin I see a binary star system that collapsed into a massive supernova spewing comedy godl throughout the universe. It’s beautiful.

GPU Mining Crash Course - START HERE!

Welcome All to the GPUMining Crash Course!
With the increase in prices in cryptocurrency, a lot of people are getting back into mining and a lot of people are brand new to the concept overall. So, I quickly wrote this crash course to help you understand what to expect and how to successfully mine your first cryptocurrency. This crash course isn't gonna have all of the fluff you'd see in a normal publication. This is just everything you need to know to get up and running on your first cryptocurrency mining rig.

What is cryptocurrency mining?

One of the main things about cryptocurrencies is that they are "decentralized". Sounds great, but WTF does that even mean? Well, the easiest way to explain it is...
You know how if you want to send your friend/family money digitally, you can do so through your bank. Your bank likely takes a transaction fee and in a few days they will transfer the money. Since cryptocurrencies are decentralized, they don't have a bank or organization to fulfill the transfer of money. Instead, they outsource the computing power of their cryptocurrency network to miners (soon to be you). These miners are verifying transactions, securing the blockchain, and powering the cryptocurrency's specific network among other things. As an incentive, the miners collect transaction fees on the transactions that they verify and collect block rewards while new currency is still being introduced into the ecosystem.

What kind of rig should I build?

You can mine cryptocurrencies using your CPU, GPU, FPGA, or ASIC, but this is a GPU Mining subreddit, so I will cater this to GPUs.
For building a great all-around GPU rig, there are two models of GPUs that I'd recommend:
Both of these GPUs have solid hashrates across most mining algorithms and for a decent price! You should be able to find both of these kinds of GPUs used for around $200-$250 each, which is a great price if you know what happened during the last mining craze! ($200 GPUs were out of stock everywhere and people were reselling them for $600+ each)
There are also plenty of great AMD GPUs for mining, but I've worked mostly with Nvidia so that's why both of my recommendations are Nvidia and not AMD.
Other parts to your rig that you'll need are listed below. Most of these can be pieces of crap and are just needed to make the rig actually run, but the one spot you DON'T want to cheap out on is the power supply unit. A decent power supply unit will keep your home from burning down while also keeping your rigs up and running smoothly. Here are my recommendations:

She's built, now what?

Now you need to do a few things. I am a Windows miner, so I will be speaking to Windows here:
  1. Update Windows - Do all of the updates. Just do it.
  2. Update Drivers - Go to the EVGA website and download GeForce experience. It will keep your GPU drivers up to date.
  3. Go to Windows Device Manager and make sure all of your GPUs show up under "Display Adapters". If it is there, but it isn't showing the Name/Model of the GPU as the name, right click it and select "Update Driver". This should fix it.
Assuming you've done all of this, you're ready to download a mining application.

Mining Software

There are tons to choose from! Claymore, Phoenix, EWBF, LolMiner, etc... It can be overwhelming pretty quickly since they all have different algorithm support, speeds, efficiencies, and a whole lot more. On top of that, in order to get them running you need to set up batch files to call the proper exe, point you to the correct pool, and a whole bunch of other stuff that can be confusing to a new user. Not to mention, you will probably need a separate miner, config file, batch file, etc. for each different algorithm that you're interested in mining on.
Instead, I recommend that you download a miner management software that will take care of most of this tedious work for you. There are a few in the sidebar, but the /GPUMining favorite is AIOMiner. It was developed by our very own community member, xixspiderxix with the intention of making mining as easy as possible to do and without any fees. It supports over 100 different algorithms, so you'll be able to mine nearly ANY cryptocurrency you'd like. Just download it from their website and it will take you through a quick tutorial to help you get set up! You can also connect your rig to their website for remote monitoring and control. You've probably seen a few of their posts around this subreddit.
Other Windows mining softwares include:
Note: Many mining softwares have fees built into them. Most are around 1%, but can go as high as 5% or greater! You want a mining software with little or no fees at all so that you get to keep as much cryptocurrency as possible. These fees aren't something you actively pay, the software will automatically take it by mining on the developers behalf for a given amount of time and then switching back to mining on your own behalf. So, please be diligent in the software that you evaluate and make sure it is reputable.

I keep hearing about NiceHash. What is that?

The asshole of the mining industry. Jk, but not really.
NiceHash is a software program that allows you to sell your rig's hashing power to someone on their marketplace. They market themselves as profitable mining, but you're not really mining. You're selling your power in exchange for Bitcoin.
They did a great job telling people that with them, you're always mining the most profitable coin, but that's just not true. Since it is a mining marketplace, they make you mine whatever their most expensive contract is. If their contracts are below market prices, then you're not operating as efficiently and profitably as you could be.
NiceHash also has a sketchy history, which continues to this day. In 2017, they were hacked and lost $65M worth of Bitcoin. No one got paid out for MONTHS and many of their executives conveniently resigned. Their platform is also used to destroy cryptocurrencies. Since people are able to purchase mining power on their platform, people have used their platform to purchase enough mining power to control individual cryptocurrencies and duplicate coins, which increased the malicious user's wealth while completely destroying the integrity of the coin's blockchain. HoriZEN (formerly ZenCash), Ethereum Classic, and many other great cryptocurrencies have been the victim of NiceHash's platform.
For this and many other reasons, we highly recommend that you stay AWAY from Nicehash. We understand that it is extremely easy to use and you get paid in bitcoin, but they are destroying the industry with their greed and lack of motivation to change their platform for the protection of cryptocurrencies.

Concluding Thoughts

This is pretty much everything you need to know to get started. We covered the hardware, setting up the software, which software to use, and AIOMiner's tutorial will get you up to speed on how to actually mine the cryptocurrency that you want better than I can explain it, so I'll leave that part to them.
If you have any questions on this crash course, please leave a comment below where myself and other community members will be able to help you out.

Please suggest alternate parts for new budget/midrange PC

My 10-year old gaming system has finally bit the dust after many years of loyal service. Worth knowing: -I don't play anything AAA. I have two young kids, and I just don't have time to devote to gaming anymore. I would like to play X-COM 2. -I have two hard drives I can salvage from the old one, because they're recent upgrades: A Micron 500GB SATA SSD and a WD 2 TB hard drive. -I'd also like to keep the two 5.25" drives I have: A DVD burner and Blu-Ray player. -It's in my bedroom, and my wife will be displeased with a ridiculous looking case, or a loud PC. No LEDs, please.
That said, this is what I'm thinking. I'd like to keep it around $500-600, if I can.

I run a 8600k with GTX 970, MSI Z370 Gaming Plus, 16 GB RAM 3000MHZ, EVGA Supernova G2 750W, m.2 ssd samsung evo 970 pro, and 2 normal WD Blue Sata drives.

So, I have been having an issue that I just cannot explain and I have tried almost everything that I have found - and I found a lot in 3 days - in reputable sites online but still to no avail. My CPU cores have been running for the last year or so on 4.6mhz with XMP enabled, not having messed with any other settings in the (voltage was on auto) and running fine, except for 1 thing. CPU demanding games (BFV, Apex Legends) would underperform, but just enough so I would blame it on my "shitty" GPU (I run 1440p and 970 should be expected to underperform at the newer releases) and not look into it further, cause I am an idiot. This became apparent to me lately where I tried to play MORDHAU (64vs64 mode is pretty demanding on CPU) with some friends, and the CPU throttling is so obvious there that forced me to look into it but also consider that both previous mentioned games also had more or less the same issue.

I will explain exactly what happens that makes me think it is CPU throttling, in order to give you a better understanding:
The game runs (when stable) at 80-100 fps with medium settings give or take then suddenly dips to 5 fps for anywhere between 20 seconds and 2 minutes only to jump up again. It happens completely randomly, to the point where the first time I played it only happened twice in 2 hours and the next time I tried to play it happened non stop and made the game unplayable. I dropped all the settings to the lowest, even went as low as 1200x800 resolution but while fps increases greatly, the dips to 5 fps still happen frequently. Drivers were updated but I also downloaded a recent hotfix update from NVIDIA that wasn't on GeForce Experience and supposedly fixes some CPU usage issues. I transferred the game to my SSD just to see if it was a read issue, nothing, I put all the usually suggested settings - High priority CPU on the game from task manager and tweaked the settings on Geforce Control Panel but still the same. In the time this happens my CPU temp is at 60-70C and does not increase or drop, GPU temp is 65-80C and does not increase or drop, all 6 Core Clocks are stuck at 4600Mhz but CPU usage dips to 25%-35% from 55%-70% while fps dips. Speccy showed mobo at 41C and Voltage on cpu load reaches 1.216 to 1.232 and when not loaded its as low as 1.206, so looks pretty normal. This appeared like CPU throttling, so I thought VRMs overheating might be an issue here and when I removed the tempered glass and touched the VRMs, they were burning hot. I went to bios and changed back to stock clock speeds (with game boost) which takes the Clocks to 4.3-4.4 only for it to happen again. I switched game boost off and tried turbo boost only (4.1 Mhz) and again, nothing. In this case, I even tried running with the case glass open, switched all my air flow to have 2 case fans directly blow air towards the VRMs and an air conditioning unit directly on top of the case blow cold air towards it. The VRMs were not hot in this case but the issue remained the same. The only thing that improved is that the throttling is slightly shorter in duration but happens in (more or less) the same random frequency making the game unplayable (also pc is unusable at this time from stuttering).

I ran HeavyLoad to see if the CPU had an issue but the test turned out fine. I read about how sometimes mobo power limits your CPU so I increased it from 95W and 120W short to 150W and 200W, but again nothing. I also read about how this could be caused by malware (heard about a bitcoin mining virus) so I ran multiple scans with different programs. I am now considering restoring factory BIOS and formatting everything at the same time to see if it gets fixed but I will not try it until later today.

Apologies for the wall of text, but in the last 3 days I have tried everything I could find or think of to fix this issue at hand and still. Does anyone honestly have any idea of what could cause this? Could this be an issue with a faulty hardware part? Or something else I am missing?

Thank you in advance.

What is the Next Bubble?

I was too young to make money during the dot com bubble.

I lost money during the housing bubble

I didn't invest in Bitcoin despite reading about it in Wired magazine several years before it went supernova.

What is the next bubble? Preferably something I can invest in.
